High School Theatre in the state of Florida is highly competitive and active, and very much alive. Lyman Theatre, Lymlight Productions, and Thespian Troupe 2329 are vibrant members of that community, and have been honored with awards and accolades across the state, including the prestigious Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the Orlando International Fringe Festival, as well as nation-wide through Broadwayworld.com, who acknowledged our program as a national high school in the spotlight. This is not your Momma’s ‘Drama Program’. In fact, we don’t even call it Drama anymore– since that is a term which refers specifically to the text of plays, and since the term “drama” has come to refer to something negative. No, in fact, what we do is Theatre in all it’s well-lit, beautifully designed glory. And we strive to do it well. Participating in this program is a real commitment. It is a commitment to hard work, self-discipline, and a thirst for learning. It is a commitment to yourself and your own self-improvement. It will push your boundaries and expand your creativity. If you are a parent or guardian, it is a commitment to the beautiful child you have raised– it is a commitment of encouragement of all that child can become. It is a commitment to the family of Lyman Theatre– you will choose how fully you participate, but we will become your family away from home, if you will allow us the privilege. Each year, we focus on personal goal-setting, as well as honesty in our art. We learn, practice and create together. We have stories to tell, festivals to run, and memories to make. I look forward the journey, and am glad to have you by my side as we step forward into the adventure that awaits us. Welcome to your Theatre program. “We’re gonna make this place your home.”
